Our Fishing Charter in Rocky Point: 3 Hours on the Sea of Cortez

Ten of us spent three hours on the water with Federicos Fishing Charters. The crew baited our rods and skinned our fish, and it was such a great value.

Puerto Peñasco has become one of our favorite quick getaways from Arizona, and the time we spent out on the Sea of Cortez reminded us why.

We went out on a fishing charter with Federicos Fishing Charters. There were 10 of us, it lasted about three hours, and we fished, snorkeled, jumped off the boat, and spotted marine life up close.

The Crew Did the Work

The crew baited our fishing rods and skinned the fish we caught. They did so much for us that, for around $45 a person, it was such a great value.

The crew was amazing, and the time was fantastic.

The Boat

The boat was nice enough. Inside, it is just the basics, so don't expect a luxury yacht. Outside, it was accommodating for our group of 10, and the crew made the whole thing easy.

Fishing Was the Main Event

Ask anyone in our group what the best part was and you'll hear the same answer: the fishing. Everything else was fun, but nothing beat having a rod in your hands out on the Sea of Cortez with a crew that handled the messy parts.

Between the fishing, jumping off the boat, and the snorkeling, three hours went by fast.

Jumping In and Snorkeling

The snorkeling was fun, but we'll be honest: jumping off the boat was more fun. The snorkeling was okay. It was more swimming than anything else, and we couldn't see under the water that well. If you're picturing a crystal clear reef, adjust your expectations.

It still ranks below the fishing for the team, but it's a nice change of pace in the middle of the trip. We spotted marine life up close, and the views of Puerto Peñasco from the water were beautiful.

A Little Seasick

One honest note: Tamekia got a little seasick. We think it was because she was in the wrong spot on the boat, trying to make lunch for everybody, crew included.

If you tend to get queasy, pick a good spot with fresh air where you can see the horizon, and let someone else handle lunch.

See It for Yourself

We shared the day on YouTube. Here is the short.
